You may have heard of sporting clays referred to as golf with a shotgun, and that’s a fair comparison. Like golf courses, no two sporting clays courses are alike, and terrain and background have a lot to do with how targets are presented. Sporting clays is the closest thing to actual field shooting of all shotgun sports. Rather than having clay birds thrown from standardized distances and angles as with skeet or trap, sporting clays courses are designed to simulate the hunting of ducks, pheasants, other upland birds, and even rabbits.

Our Sporting Clays course consists of 15 stations, and the course is changed frequently. We offer standard pheasant clays as well as rabbit, midis, batteau and 70mm, as well as varied presentations such as chandelles, true teal and a station over water.

No reservations are required. New shooters are required to take a lesson with one of our instructors before being allowed to shoot. Gun barrels must be at least 24 inches, and 7 1/2 or 8 shot is to be used, speed 1250 or less. We do not rent guns or sell ammo.

Summer Hours are: Thursday and Friday 10:00-5:00, Saturday and Sunday 9:00-5:00.

Round of 50 is $28, Round of 100 is $52.

The address for the Clay Course is 11781 Lucky Hill Road. (11986 is the Kennel and Hunting Preserve.)

We occasionally are closed for Corporate or Private events, so it is best to check our Facebook Page, Shady Grove Sporting Clays for up to date information. If it is raining, we will be closed.
